Literacy Across All Programs
We believe literacy skills are essential for success in every area of life. That's why we weave literacy components into nearly all of our programs:
Cooking: Students read and follow recipes, building comprehension skills as they measure ingredients and understand step-by-step instructions.
Art: Participants read about different art styles, techniques, and famous artists, expanding vocabulary and cultural knowledge.
Fitness/Run Club: Kids learn fitness-specific vocabulary (endurance, pacing, stamina) and read about health concepts that apply to their training.
STEM: Students read instructions for experiments, document their findings in writing, and present their discoveries to peers.
Team Building: Activities include reading challenge cards, following written directions, and reflecting on experiences through journaling.
This cross-program approach ensures that literacy development happens naturally and consistently, meeting grant requirements while keeping students engaged and excited to learn.
